Customer Rating: Summary: Crazy doesn't even begin to describe this Comment: I don't really know how to do this review, so I think I will do it Christopher Blackshere style.
Reasons why to watch this movie-
- to see a great opening scene with Eddie Ko that may just bring a tear to your eye.
- some guy lives in an urn and does some of the craziest fighting you will ever see.
- a sorcerer cuts off his own legs to try and win a contest.
- a talking fish.
- Yuen Shun Yi does an awesome job of playing a villain who uses bat kung fu, and he does a ton of other crazy stuff in the fights.
- a tribute to the great Simon Yuen
- probably the craziest Taoist magic ever put to film.
- Leung Kar Yan gives a GREAT acting performance.
- plenty of other stuff that is so awesome I can't even come up with a way to describe it. It's a hilarious movie and a wild experience. You may not ever watch it again, but you have to see it once.
Rating- 3.5/5
If you like this, make sure to check out Shaolin Drunkard and Taoism Drunkard. They are the same type of movies with the same actors. And another movie that is like Miracale Fighters is Drunken Dragon. Don't sleep on that one.
The picture quality on the Universe DVD is good and the subtitles are pretty well written.
Customer Rating: Summary: Kung Fu movie? Comedy? Comment: I saw this movie because I'm a big fan of Yuen Woo Ping, but came away wondering what it was all about. There were some martial arts in it, but it seemed to be mainly some sort of stream-of-consciousness comedy that I didn't get. There's a whole lot of plot that doesn't really go anywhere, and some wire fu that seems to be there because he can do it, not because it has anything to do with the movie. I guess when you do as many movies as he does (sometimes 3 in a year) you're bound to end up with a few like this one.
Customer Rating: Summary: wacky, ingenious and highly entertaining Comment: This movie is one of the best fantasy/comedies from hong kong that I have seen. Yuen Woo Ping (Drunken Master, Magnificent Butcher, The Matrix) directs and choreographs this gem with great humour, inventiveness and flair. The sets and cinematography are also top notch. Some of the wacky set pieces include "a pedal-powered massage chair, a feather barometer, a homonculus-like baby, masks, flying drills, and a fighting stick-man". The film culminates with a tournament of sorcerers which is great fun. Many people that aren't die hard fans can find hong kong Cinema a bit of a chore but this is one of the films that will be enjoyed by anyone with a sense of humour and a taste for the bizarre and wacky. Also the Martial Arts scenes are fantastic - fast and furious with some stunning choreography - check it out!
