Editorial Reviews:

Popular horror director Yoshisaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll) served as head writer on this 1995 feature. Komada and Koshigaya are scientists--and Bio Hunters, agents who battle the Demon Virus that causes humans to mutate into weird monsters. Komada has contracted the virus, but something in his immune system enables him to control his transformations. When Komada rescues Sayaka Murakami, the granddaughter of a famed psychic, from a gang of thugs, he unwittingly pits the Bio Hunters against the powerful politician Seijuro Tabe. The partners discover that Tabe is actually the horrible monster that's been roaming Tokyo, killing young women and eating their livers. He's no longer human, but a corpse possessed by the devil. The final battle pits Komada in his monster form against the tentacles and fanged jaws of the possessed Tabe, although Koshigaya administers the coup de grâce. A well-directed, violent entertainment, Bio Hunter suffers from a disjointed story: the link between Tabe's possession and the Demon Virus is never established. The ending suggests that the film may have been intended as a pilot, as Koshigaya declares the Bio Hunters' dedication to the ongoing battle against the Virus. Bio Hunter is not for viewers with weak stomachs. Not rated; suitable only for ages 18 and up for nudity, sex, violence, cannibalism, grotesque imagery, and violence against women. --Charles Solomon

Summary: Biohunter (the not so special, special edition.)
Comment: Biohunter is a story about a pair of police one of whom has been infected by a mutating retrovirus that turns humans into raving mad monsters , unlike other people though, He has control. with the infection present in his blood he and his partner go out to confront a great evil, that only one whom, "has died, and givin his soul to the darkness can defeat the darkness" this retrovirus has the ability to turn people into all sorts of creatures of legend such as Vampires, Werewolves etc Very Violent and gory. but alas the animated gratuitous sex scene that takes nearly a minute right off the bat (no vampire pun intended) is totally unnecessary and just annoying. the dvd doesnt even take you to a menu screen just straight to the movie. and for a special edition. thats odd so I delved a little further and found the "special features" are nothing more then a trailer for final fantasy crystal (animation) oh and a few oddities but no real extras to speak of so why is this edition special? I really haven't a clue other then this is a really hard to get film that IS Excellent and has high quality sound and graphics. its been remastered nicely. its just a shame that the extras seem to have not been special enough for the "special edition" 3 1/2 stars overall. *this would have easily been 4 stars but 2 negatives. one the silly cartooon sex scene and 2 the lack of more story and battles when there Clearly was loads of room for Tons more. A really good Movie by the makers of Ninja Scroll. *hence the sex scene they are famous for them* if you can find a cheaper edition I would say get it but if you cannot then you might want to buy this.

Summary: Not horrendous, but not the most memorable
Comment: Pros:
a) A film with decent to interesting background scenes
b) Creative monsters
c) Occasionally high frame rate in action sequences

Cons:
a) Disjointed story telling going from hunting the infected to hunting the possessed with no connection
b) A failure to connect to flat characters
c) Besides the final battle, not enough memorable visuals unfold beforehand.

In summary if you like the works of Yoshiaki Kawajiri then be sure not to miss this film which adds to the darker side of his anime aesthetic. Though this film is very sub-par to Wicked City it does have its momments and should be given the honor of a rental.

Summary: One of my favorites
Comment: Its been awhile since I have been impressed with an anime storyline. Usually its the visuals that have grab me first. Biohunter did both. I was really impressed with the storyline, the visuals, and how well everything just flowed and above all kept my attention. I really like the idea of one of the creators being torn between his human self and his dark other half and how it was in his nature to try and save his friends from the "virus". Is there a Biohunter 2??

Summary: Really good.
Comment: When I bought this anime, I thought that is would be good but not excellent. After I finished watching it, I realized that this was one of the better animes that I have watched in a while. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that it was only like an hour long and it would have been a lot better if they spread this anme out into 2 hours instead. I hope that they come out wth a sequel!

Summary: A BAD ANIME
Comment: I can say that this a bad anime.
the animation quality is average and the story is dull from start to finish. There isnt any heat or excitement and it doent have a real ending.
