Summary: very worthwhile double feature, I give it a 3.5, but can't give it a 4 cause of the picture quality
Comment: FISTFUL OF TALONS
I really enjoyed this film. Obviously costed nothing, was filmed in less than a week, easily, and still manages to have enough energy becasue of billy chong. I have this movie on a 2-movie dvd from video asia that also has the classic "Kugn Fu Zombie" on it.
So Billy is a Qing hater and wants to throw down with anybody who is lookign to revolt and try to overthrow the government. So he does things like brutally cut off their Qing braids, and even lets his mouth go in front of the great hapkido master-Whang in-Sik (baddie in Young Master). His father(bruce's master in chinese connection and jackie's master in young master) does not want to fight with anybody and gets his son out of trouble. But his son just can't help himself. He decides to shwo the governemt up and even messes around with a local oficial. Well things turn bad when a man he was trying to help is on the run because of his loyalty and billy follows. No action for a WHILE. But soem really awesome training sequences on a huge statue(more like imbedded in the rock like rushmore) of buddha, freaking sweet. So in the end Whang in-sik finds everyone and we get a SPECTACULAR conlusion that gets a bit too weird for me, but still highly enjoyable. And if you don't know who the hero and bad guy of this movie are, you will certainly learn. This is easily one of the cheapest movies ever, with the final fight being set in a painted backstage. How it delivered, I have no idea but is a true testament to hwo great those 2 were. WOW!!!!!
Also the movie has a big tribute paid towards animals. Horses get are paid much respect , and yes, the eagle's are...
MILITANT EAGLE
I have the brentwood verison, and it freaking sucks! Full screened of course, you are missign out on like 30% of the picture. But I will comment full that in a minute.
The movie is absolutely wonderful. It is your typical sword drama with PLENTY of fighting at teh end to satisfy any genre fan. The movie starts out with a man going home returninig from the war. It is your typical killer clans, superhuman feats beign done type of movie. But it does so many new things. There is a MONSTER of a man in this, their are a ton of great henchmen. And not the best story but still very enjoyable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone willign to put up with one of the worst pan and scan jobs ever.
But even if you don't enjoythe story, in the last 30 minutes you have a TON of great battles among various people(including the giant) that leads to a pretty good final fight.

Summary: Double Feature Kung Fu action!
Comment: This release by Brooklyn Zoo has two films on the disc. The first is Miltant Eagle, and the second is Fistful of Talons. Both are fair Kung Fu films, but you wont find anything spectacular about them. Both are English dubbed. No subtitle fearture. The first, Militant Eagle, is of poorer visual quaility. It appears to have been copied from a VHS edition where the tracking was off for half the film. There are several well choeregraphed fight scenes however, including the ending where seveal of the heros are pitted against the villains simutaneoulsy. Even a group of kids get into the fight with there sling shots. Overall I'd give the first film a 3 due to the video quality.
The second feature, Fistful of Talons, is of better quality visually. Billy Chong plays a cocky guy who gets involved in throwing down a small movement by the Chings to restore the CHing dynasty. Along the way he meets up with Miss Ma, an enthusist and keeper of eagles. After backing out of a marriage arrangement with her, she tracks him down with her loyal eagles. Lucky for him she does, because the eagles play a vital role in saving his life in the last fight. Yeah that's right, these eagles seem to know some kung fu. You'll just have to watch to see what I'm talking about. Miss Ma dos'nt use much kung fu, she's in mainly for an excuse to have a cute girl in the film.
I prefered Fistful of Talons, and would give it a 3 1/2 rating. But for the price, it's worth getting this DOuble feature disc. Even if your turned off by the picture quality in Miltant Eagle, Fistful of Talons is worth the price.
