Customer Rating: Summary: Stupid movie, AWESOME KUNG FU!!!!! Comment: The Japanese Shaolin Temple wants to prove they are better than the Chinese Shaolin. They come for a duel. Alan Chui (main villain in 7 Grand Masters) is also a Japanese and has got some kind of plan of his own. I could never really get into the story, I usually just pay attention to the fights when I watch this. And I watch it at least once a month. It is one of my favorites. I am a big fan of old school cheesy kung fu movies, and they don't get much better than this. Alexander Lo Rei has a brilliant fight with a masked Alan Chui and then the tournament scene is the only other really good fight. In fact, it is one of the best action scenes ever. First up is a grappling match between Lo Rei and Yeung Hung (Brasshead from "The Kid with the Golden Arm"). Wong Chi Sang gets in some good spear work in his fight, and director Robert Tai gives himself a cameo and has the best fight of the movie.
I have to stop right now and just let it be known this is one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen, but it has some of the best kung fu. Robert Tai is not right in the head, so sit back and enjoy the craziness.
3.5/5
I have an old VHS tape of this. It is about 75 minutes long and has really bad picture quality. And it is full screened. If somebody knows of a good uncut version, please let me know.
Customer Rating: Summary: A give away treasure Comment: For those thrifty shoppers out there this martial film is one of the best buys you will get anywhere. The fight scenes are first class, Alexander Lu has a series of these type of films and they all are quality.
Customer Rating: Summary: Shaolin >>>>>>> Ninja Comment: Best foreign film of our time? With the exception of Five Deadly Venoms, it very well could be. I end with this: Shaolin >>> Ninja >>>>>>>>>>>> pirates. Fo Sheez.
Customer Rating: Summary: very enjoyable! Comment: This is an excellent film. I thought the plot and the choreography was done very well. One thing should be mentioned though, and that is this film is definetly prejudiced towards the Japanese. The Ninjas are shown in this film to be untrustworthy and villianous. The goofy makeup on their heads is enough to realize that this film was made to be a downer of the Ninja style. This film was made in China though, so for those of you who know the history of Chinese and Japanese relations it should come as no surpise to you. Still it is a good flick...and if there is one thing to be learned from this film it is that Shaolin is better than Ninja!!!
