Customer Rating: Summary: Triumph? Not exactly. This is a complete failure Comment: This kung fu movie from 1977 has very good music, and that is the only good thing that I can say about it! I was looking forward to seeing Chan Wai Man beat people down, but that doesn't happen. I urge everyone to stay far away from this movie.
Many kung fu fans will know Chan Wai Man from movies like Chinese Super Ninjas, 8 Escorts, Blooded Treasury Fight, and many other good movies, and he is still acting today. Chan Wai Man was a real fighter. He fought in the ring and he smashed people. He was also a gang member and has tattoos all over his body. And he used to be good friends with Bruce Lee. So needless to say, he is a very interesting person. I have never seen a review of this movie so I had to pick it up for myself to see what it's all about. So here's what its about, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Chan Wai Man plays your typical anti-hero. His mother is looking for him, but he doesn't really want to be found. Ever since his father died he has been sitting around doing nothing and getting drunk. This has been going on for 5 years. So finally his mother finds him and says something like- "You need to revenge your father!" He's like- "Alright, I guess I can try." So now the training scenes start. The training scenes are actually not too bad. After training he goes to take revenge on the evil silverfox played by Kam Kong (THE Master of the Flying Guillotine). Kam Kong is a really good actor, but unfortunately he doesn't get to do much in this film.
Now to the fights. I will only go over one of the fight scenes because there is no point in breaking them all down. After the training scenes, Chan Wai Man goes to take revenge. He shows up at a temple and starts fighting all of Kam Kong's men. This fight couldn't be anymore sloppy. He finally kills like 10 guys and looks like he is going to fall over dead after he does it. But he continues to drag his feet and makes his way over to fight Kam Kong. Now get this, the fight is shown in snapshots. I thought it was a unique touch and the other fights are so bad that this is actually the best scene of the movie. Ugh.
Alright, I am done, I can't talk about this movie anymore. I am erasing it from my memory right now.
1/5
The picture is widescreen and the picture quality is average at best. The English dub is pretty well acted and the sound quality is decent. There is a humming sound for most of the movie, but if you have any Videoasia DVDs you know what to expect.
