Universal Serenity - HD-DVD
Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with SERENITY, the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series, FIREFLY. A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, SERENITY follows captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on,Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher, Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal andhis crew make it difficult for Simon and River tostay hidden. Everything goes completely awry whena government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.

Summary: Excellent Space Opera with Chinese-Western Twist
Comment: Serenity is the final episode, as it were, of the Firefly sci-fi series. Since the show was cancelled after one season, over-whelming response from loyal fans of the show inundated the powers at be responsible for this Awesome show. Director, Joss Whedon, decided to make a theatrical version of the show that would make a final statement of a wonderfully written and original idea for a space opera that never had the chance to let the characters and the storyline mature to it's fullest. The CGI-special effects are excellent and and believable. The sets are well designed and the costumes are well suited for the atmosphere of the show. Not, distracting or taking away from the importance of the characters.
If you are a fan or just like the Firefly series, I highly recommend this DVD. If you haven't seen the series and have seen this DVD or motion picture, I highly suggest you rent or buy the series Firefly. It will complete this whole brilliant concept in a storyline of Patriotism, Friendship, Family and Love...in outer space.

Summary: GREAT FINISH TO AN EXCELLENT SERIES
Comment: SERENITY was so much better than almost any of the other sci-fi around- including the last three over-blown STAR WARS episodes. The characters were wonderful, the acting was solid, the action fast, and the special effects never got in the way of the story. A definite must-have for sci-fi lovers.

A capable adaptation of the always-interesting, sometimes-brilliant Firefly, Serenity benefits from Chiwetel Ejiofor's exceptional villain and Whedon's wry humor; it's not a classic, but it's an effective movie.

Summary: WOW! That was NOT a 4.6 star movie.
Comment: This movie is nowhere near its 4.6 rating. Acting and dialog were mediocre, character development was lacking. If you compare it to movies like Mad Max then maybe 3 stars, otherwise if you are not a fan or this series, don't waste your time. It was very disappointing.
