Summary: A Toast to Knuckleheaded Humor
Comment: Dim-witted, locker room humor. Check. Gratuitous nudity. Check. Ribald, sophomoric chicanery. Check. A lame, utterly ridiculous plot. Check. Yet put all of the above into an over-the-top knee-slapper like the audacious BEERFEST, and it's all good.

This is a film that celebrates nonsense. And depravity. And chaos. And celebrate it does--from stimulating frogs (not something you see very often in cinema) to saving one's self while trapped in a tank of beer by drinking said tank dry. And all the zaniness is geared towards Beerfest, an underground international beer-chugging extravaganza, overseen by Wolfgang von Wolfhaus (now THAT'S a name!, played frantically by Jurgen Prochnow). A team of five Americans--after many trials and tribulations during "training"--compete in a wide variety of events, from Beer Pong to Das Boot. And ultimately, it's a hoot.

The movie sports primarily a cast of unknowns (at least, to me), with the exception of the ever-humorous Cloris Leachman. Noteworthy contributors include Jay Chandrasekhar (who also directed) and Kevin Heffernan (the legendary beer-imbibing Landfill). No, you aren't going to be any smarter, or solve quantum physics problems any faster, for having seen the naughty, bawdy BEERFEST. But you are going to have an impish smile on your mug. Pour me a cold one.

Summary: A Christmas surprise
Comment: My husband loves these kinds of slap-stick humor, so I thought this would be a great addition to his movie collection. What worked out so great was that while shopping at our mall I was able to find a mock version of "Das Boot" from the movie and give that with the movie as a cute little set. He was pleased with the idea & loved them both!

Summary: A NEW COMEDIC CLASSIC!! GREAT CHARACTERS!!
Comment: This movie is great, I couldnt help but laugh at how they tried to be natural with the acting but you just bust out laughing. The best character, well actually my Favorite character in the film is OBVIOUSLY "Landfill". And one thing that remains a mystery about this film is that when Landfill supposedly passes away.. His "Twin" brother Phil that nobody knew he had shows up. Leaving you going "Huh?" for the next 15 minutes until you say "Ohh, okay" .. This movie is filled with crazy Germans who are Beer drinking Gawds!!

At college parties all over you have Students having "Das Boot" Parties, Drinking out of a Glass boot. Any Young Hefty fat guy with a gut will be called Landfill. The Crowd will Root "Land-FILL, Land-FILL, Lanfill, Landfill" Just like you've become him until you down all your beer. Cool

Anyway I feel you should check out this movie, its for some people who have a humour with an actual understanding behind it. SLackers especially need to check this out. A NEW COMDEDY CLASSIC BABY!!! DAS BOOOOT!!!

Summary: Return of the Lizards!
Comment: Beerfest (Jay Chandresakhar, 2006)

First off, so you don't have to read the rest of this review: if you've never been fond of Broken Lizard's movies, then by all means, skip this one. It's everything that makes Broken Lizard great condensed.

Okay, now that the rest of them are gone and I'm preaching to the choir, it's everything that makes Broken Lizard great condensed. There's intensely stupid humor, consumption of mass quantities of alcohol (to the point where a disclaimer is attached to the beginning of the movie), gratuitous nudity, no small amount of toilet humor, and major stars whose appearances will leave you wondering "how on Earth did he get roped into being in this piece of crap?". Ah, Broken Lizard, how we love you.

In this most recent (as I write this) offering from the Lizards, Todd (Erik Stolhanske) and Jan (Pete Soter) Wolfhouse travel to Germany to inter their grandfather's ashes in the family crypt. While there, they discover that their grandfather's family, from whom he fled as a young man (carrying the secret family beer recipe), are the driving force behind Beerfest, an underground Oktoberfest version of Fight Club. The brothers, prodigious drinkers both, enter the contest and are humbled by their German cousins, who laugh them out of the competition hall. Suitably fired up, the two vow to put together an American drinking team and return the next year to claim the title that is rightfully theirs. (Not surprisingly, the team is composed of the rest of the Lizard crew--Jay Chandresakhar, Kevin Heffernan, and Steve Lemme.) Meanwhile, the Germans have waited decades to get the secret family recipe back, and will do so at any cost.

At heart, Beerfest is every dumb, inspirational sports movie you've ever seen, and the Lizards know how to both parody the tropes and use them to great effect. (Given the choice between this and Talladega Nights? Well, there is no choice, really.) And that's what Broken Lizard do best, the same way they did it to the slasher genre in Club Dread. And if you like that sort of parody, this should be right up your alley. *** ½
