For eye-popping kinetic thrills, District B13 tops the class. In the near future, the worst ghettos of Paris have been walled in and left to rot. When a neutron bomb gets stolen by a criminal kingpin in seedy District B13, Damien--a cop who specializes in deep cover assignments (Cyril Raffaelli, a stuntman turned actor)--has to team up with Leito (David Belle), who grew up in the district and has his own reason for going back: the kingpin kidnapped his sister (tough yet adorable gamine Dany Verissimo). The plot takes a few preposterous turns, but it's beside the point--every turn serves only to maintain the relentless flow of sheer physical prowess. Belle is one of the inventors of a sport called parkour, which treats a city's architecture like an obstacle course; while running from gun-toting thugs, Leito leaps, bounds, and scrambles up and down buildings with astonishing grace. The fight sequences are just as down-to-earth yet over-the-top as Damien whirls, kicks, and crunches through armies of bad guys. Just as important is the tongue-in-cheek tone that never turns smirky; the movie doesn't take itself seriously, but doesn't mock itself or its basic cinematic pleasures. Anyone looking for a break from the overbearing CGI and self-important pomp of Hollywood action movies should watch District B13. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Rating: Summary: Pure Fun Comment: This movie does NOT have the best story line or dialog. Point-blank the only real reason to watch this movie is to see a wonderful display of Parkour (also known as Freestyle Running/Walking. Google it).
PLOT: in the future cities get worse, blah blah blah. The worst section is known as District B13. One of the main characters Leito, is from District B13. He gets sent to prison for killing a man. Later on he tries to save his sister with the conditional help of the other main character (and founder of Parkour) who's using him to help find and defuse a bomb that is supposed to be somewhere in the district. I'm not using names because they're not important.
once again, the ONLY reason to watch this movie is because of the incredible no-wire stunts that they do. some serious don't-try-this-at-home jumps, flips, and fighting. If you've seen Die Hard with a Vengeance, the founder of Parkour is the white-blond haired guy who's jumping around the pipes when Bruce Willis is in the ventilation system. the one that Bruce calls a G-d monkey. This movie is seriously worth watching if you love a good action scene that involves incredible stunt work without the use of wires. think: Jackie Chan on speed, and you might get an idea of what goes on.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Action Flick Comment: This movie caught me by suprise. It's great! I only wish that the blu ray disc version used subtitles and was not dubbed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Parkour as its best!!! Comment: For anybody looking for a good martial arts with mix of gun blazing and incredible stunts, this movie will offer all the ingredients. The PQ is top notch and AQ is almost as good as the video. This movie should be in your list if your looking for a good action film with a twist of futuristic setting.
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing stuntwork in a very cool movie! Comment: Luc Besson is one of my favorite directors, but when it comes to the lower budgeted films where he just produces, they've been VERY hit and miss. Given that, when I discovered this I wasn't expecting much, just another mediocre futuristic French actioner. However, I'm glad my expectations were exceeded because this was probably one of the most exciting action films I've seen in the past few years, with some mind-blowing acrobatic stunts and fight sets. The opening chase scene alone is worth the price of admission. The story about a nuke gone missing is fairly standard, but has some nice social relevance in this case and the story involves intertwining the two nimble main protagonists in a fairly believable joint effort. Bottom line: this is a damn cool movie!
Customer Rating: Summary: District 13 (Blu-ray) Comment: An average movie. Parts of the physical action scenes were quite entertaining and some good humour, but large sections of the movie were relatively stiff, some-what contrived & predictable. Certainly not as cutting edge as what you would expect when seeing Luc Besson's name attached to it.
