For centuries, there lived warriors of darkness and shadow with strange powers and arcane skills, living only for battle. They were the SHINOBI he year is 1614. Japan has been united under the Tokugawa Shoguns and the land is begining to feel at peace. Two remote ninja clans, the Koga and the Iga, are ancient enemies but have long been bound by a peace agreement forbidding them to fight. The heirs to the leadership of both clans have fallen in love but a tragic fate awaits them. A cruel plot is set by the Shogun to wipe these two clans from existence by breaking the peace agreement and forcing the two clans to battle. Five Ninjas of each the Koga and Iga clans will battle against each other to the death. As a great war begins it brings the two young heirs together again. But this time as enemies.

Customer Rating: Summary: Shinobi Comment: Entertaining. Follow's the Romeo and Juliet saga very closely but is somewhat more introspective. The heroine actually doubts the truth of her own humanity, extremely conflicted by what she thought was her destiny to be a warrior princess and her love for the prince of her enemy. It took the conviction and sacrifice of the hero to convice her that her tradition of violence had a hollow ring. So he's dead, she mourns her loss, and finds she needs to sacrifice herself for the safety of the two villages, the only thing of value left to her. Sounds sad doesn't it? Well heck, so is R&J.
The caliber of the performances was good, not great, and the special 'talents' of the Shinobi were inventive. All in all I found it entertaining and sufficiently redeeming.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not bad Comment: Doesn't compare to the anime story of basilisk which this film was based on, but it's good in its own right
Customer Rating: Summary: expected a lot but merely satisfied Comment: i believe my arcaid playing times have played a lot role in my high expectation from a movie called shinobi :D although the movie was not bad in itself because i kept my expectations very high it failed to meet them
but nevertheless i enjoyed cool coreographies, action sequences and general atmoshphere.
Customer Rating: Summary: shinobi heart under blade Comment: Gooda.
I live in Australia and I am not able to view Sinobi Heart under blade on my PS 3. Due to a regional code, I am really disappointed. Do you know if there is a code that I can enter so that I may view this DVD.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks
Customer Rating: Summary: Love, Sacrifice, and The Way of the Warrior Comment: A story about two warriors (shinobi/ninja's) in love across enemy lines, forced to battle with the internal emotional conflict of love contending with duty...a tension which builds and builds until the climax. Epic stuff.
The fight choreography is excellent. Dynamic camera angles which constantly test your perception of up, down, and ground level as the characters likewise do the same. Combine that with twirly acrobatics and flowing weapons, and where the laws of physics fall short, CGI is more than willing to make up for it. Expect fight scenes to be very staccato and dynamic (think Advent Children and Matrix), not legato and fluid (i.e. Crouching Tiger and Hero). It's great for those with imagination, but not for anyone who can't get passed needing "realism"...it's live-action Anime. Enough said ;).
The characters are all unique, and like characters common in Anime/manga, each has a unique jutsu (or combat art). It is intriguing to see how their different jutsu's are pitted against each other in battle, and seeing which one comes out on top in the life and death struggle of war. The ultimate Jutsus, of course, are beheld by the two lovers, who must hold on desperately to their love across enemy lines.
Heh, and the "uh oh, you pissed off the wielder of the elite jutsu" scenes are awesome.
While this does have a lot of similarities of Romeo and Juliet, don't call it a remake of it, or a rip off, or even an interpretation of that story. It is an archetype, and archetypes exist for a reason (things we just love seeing, hearing, etc.) The story itself (which is based on a novel called The Kouga Ninja Scrolls) as far as I know has nothing to do with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. I only mention this as an artist frustrated with people ALWAYS saying "that idea was taken from soandso". In reality, writers/artists/etc. with similar interests, upbringings, and lifestyles often produce similar ideas.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. My only gripe is that I wish there were more fight scenes.
